X-Mail från 1982

Binary Star! Uncanny X-Men, #164, 1982.

Kolla in Binary ovan, hennes huvud.

Nåja. Det som jag hajade till på var en av insändarna undertecknad Phillip Bloom och Rob Rainville. Jag citerar hela brevet skickat till tidningen X-Mens brevlåda X-Mail:

"Dear Chris & Dave:

This letter is in reference to Alan Gabrielle's theory of Nightcrawler's teleportation ability. As Alan states, the process of fusion releases enormous amounts of energy, certainly sufficient to power teleportation when applies in ordinary mechanical means.

However, I find two problems with the oxygen fusion hypothesis. First, it has been estimated that a temperature of 1x10(8) C is needed to make fusion take place. There is no evidence that heat energy is produced during the teleportation process. If we assume that Nightcrawler overcomes the heat problem, one other problem seems to remain. The energy produced by fusion results from the coversion of mass lost in the reaction energy.

As an example, the fusion of hydrogen to form helium results in a mas loss of 2.929x10(-2) (where 1 = the mass of a proton), which is converted to energy. However, the fusion of two oxygen atoms would result in an atomic mass of 31.9988, and since the atomic mass od sulpher atom is 32.0640, there is no excess mass to be lost in the reaction. If no mass is lost - no energy is obtained. In fact, the fusion of oxygeb into sulpher may be theoretically impossible for this very reason.

I would very much appreciate hearing from Alan Gaberielle or any other interested readers."

Strålande inlägg, inte sant!?
